Logistics

Distribution centres and yards, where dock time is money.

The numbered loading bays of a distribution centre at dawn, with trailers docked and a tractor unit manoeuvring.

What it solves

A dock taken by a vehicle that arrived before its appointment disrupts the rest of the day, and nobody knows why until the afternoon.

What gets measured here

Every signal, with the standard behind it

  • 11 characters

Modulo-11 check digit · catches the misread character on the way in

    Identificación de contenedor

The code is validated with its check digit before entering the system: a misread character is caught there, not three steps later.

    ISO 6346
  • 250 px/m

    Identify · ~40 px of face · biometric ≈ 500

    Calidad de imagen por tarea

Reading a plate demands far more pixels per metre than seeing a truck come in. Each camera declares what it's for.

    IEC 62676-4 · DORI
  • 2 numbers

Hazard code over UN number · cross-checked against what was declared

    Dangerous goods

The orange panel is read and cross-checked against what was declared. An undeclared crossing in the yard is an emergency, not a notice.

    UN · ADR
  • Off

Face recognition ships disabled · retention with a deadline and auditable deletion

    Datos personales

Plates, faces and driver data have a term, a reason for access and auditable deletion.

    GDPR · UE 2016/679

The full catalogue is 311 standards across fourteen domains, and it lives inside the platform — next to the field where the number goes — not in an appendix to the manual.

A concrete case

A container ship berthed under port cranes, with trucks moving beside the container stacks.
Port terminal · video is worth something when crossed with the register and the appointment, not watched alone.

A port yard is not measured in cameras, it is measured in minutes

A distribution centre and a port terminal have the same problem at different scale: knowing which vehicle is inside, since when, and what it carries. The camera is the means; what gets billed and what gets disputed is dock time and cargo traceability. That is why video is crossed with the carrier register and the appointment, not watched on its own.

  • Plate and container reading

    ISO 6346

The plate identifies the vehicle and the container code the cargo. Without both, a crossing is not a crossing: it is a photograph.

  • Time inside and dock time

From entry to exit, and how much of that was at the dock. It is the figure that gets billed and the one that gets disputed.

  • Appointment adherence

Whether it arrived on time, and what the difference cost. The stated hour and the actual hour are recorded separately.

  • Declared hazardous cargo

    UN · ADR

An undeclared crossing in a zone with active gas escalates by itself. What was not declared is exactly what must be found.

Position is stated, or it is not

The yard map shows where each vehicle is according to how certain that is. If it is not known, no position is invented.
